In an effort to do my part in a worthwhile cause that I feel passionate about, I talk and educate about the over poplulation problem of the feral and farm/rural cats. Hopefully by talking about our efforts that we take here on our homestead we can do our part in dimminishing the overpopulation of cats.
The Neuter Commuter from the Animal Ark Shelter of Blaine, MN provided the much needed on-sight spay and neuter clinic with a mobile veterinary unit. The first clinic was a tremendous success on August 8th and 9th, 2005 at the Hasskamp's Cedarbrook homestead. 90 feral or farm/rural cats were spayed and neutered during these two days.
I want to thank the volunteers, Veterinarian, Technicians and Animal Ark Coordinators who made it all possible to bring the Neuter Commuter to the Aitkin area. Check out the link below to see pictures of the Neuter Commuter and their program at the Hasskamp's.
FYI...Unchecked populations of wild cats are alarming and the results are devastating. Living on a farm we know only to well that shooting and killing these cats a sad alternative to population control. If 70% of the cat population is spayed or neutered it makes a tremedous impact on population control. Did you know that a dominate neutered male cat will protect his territory and keep un-neutered males from moving in and mating with un-spayed females? For quite a few years we have neutered our male cats and our populations have lessened noticeably on our farm.
